400 and 500 series error pages are important to have within your Web site. For example, most sites add and delete pages frequently. Many of the deleted pages are still within the search engines many times for months and months. People that find any of these pages via a Web search will get a site not found error and will probably think your site is no longer available.
The 400 series pages will send such visitors to an error page on your site where they will be able to access active pages on your site.
The 500 error pages deal with technical errors from scripting or server problems and you can provide methods for these people to contact the site to report these issues.
